Attractions & historic sites in Malta and Gozo
The places worth making time for across Malta and Gozo — from the UNESCO megalithic temples and the walled city of Mdina to the Grand Harbour forts, Baroque churches, and the islands’ most striking bays and cliffs. Each listing tells you what it is, the best way to get there, an accessibility note, and gives one-tap directions.
For such small islands, Malta and Gozo pack in an extraordinary amount of history — 7,000-year-old temples older than the pyramids, the Knights of St John’s fortified capital, cave dwellings, and a landscape of sea cliffs, blue caves and honey-coloured towns. Many of the cultural sites are run by Heritage Malta, which offers multi-site passes that can be good value if you plan to visit several.
Getting around is easy without a car: the public bus network reaches nearly everywhere, harbour ferries link Valletta with Sliema and the Three Cities, and the Gozo Channel ferry connects the two main islands. For the outlying natural sites a car or taxi helps. Browse by town below — each site has Google Maps and Apple Maps directions — or open the interactive map and switch on the “Attractions & historic sites” layer to plan a route.
